Applications Used for general purpose structural applications of medium strength (60 ksi tensile) requirement.

Machinability Machinability of the steel covered by this specification is good, as for any low carbon steel.

Forming Formability is good by conventional means, much the same as for 1030 plain carbon steel.

Welding The steel covered by this specification may be welded by conventional methods,

Heat Treatment Heat treatment consists of normalizing at 1650 F and slow furnace cool.

Forging This specification is for plate product form and does not include forging.

Hot Working Hot working of the plate steel may be done at 1650 - 1700 F or lower temperatures.

Cold Working The steel is readily cold worked by conventional methods.

Annealing Anneal at 1550 to 1800 F and slow furnace cool.

Aging Not applicable.

Tempering Not applicable in ASTM A283.

Hardening Not applicable.
